September 23 A warm familliar feelingA while ago I was watching Anthony Bordaine's No bounderies, a show on Discovery Travel and Living for those who don't know.
He was in a dock ship, together with the family of the marines enjoying conversations eating the worste type of food for him, knowing how he dishes out insults if he feels to. But it wasn't about the food this time, so he didn't mind eating cafeteria food. Being sorrounded by warm feelings from families spending time together, he didn't mind at all. it was like, as he so truthfully described, a warm familliar feeling.
Thinking deeply, and remembering much of recent events, I never had one of those moments lately. A feeling that takes you back in time, a feeling that makes you want to be younger. A feeling that tells you that everything is going great and smooth, although sometimes it doesn't look like it. A feeling that makes you smile without you even knowing. A feeling that paints a picture of pure solemnity made and cut out just for you.
Everything has really been ok, ups and downs as I go along. Being the best of who I can be, and making things work. But I would really adore a visit from that, I think I need one. :) September 17 Double Volunteer ActivityLast Saturday, was my second and third Volunteer activity :)
My friend and I were interested in giving a "how to browse" the internet tutorial in Della Strada Parish in katipunan (BasicBytes tutorial) and a general tutorial of Math, English, Reading and writing in Pasay. Yes, the two were far apart from each other.
Early morning I recieved an SMS from the "Sherpa" (Volunteer leader) of the activity for BasicBytes, warning us that the activity might not push through because of heavy rains. Being in the spirit of Volunterism, I said that we will not cancel on our side. It will depend on the activity, luckily the second part (9:30-10:30 and 10:30-11:30) pushed through because the rain stopped.
Arriving just in time, we were pleasantly greeted by the other volunteers. Mentioning to them that I was from Sucat, they wondered why I was there. "Un activity kasi un pinili ko e, gusto ko magturo," then they blushed and said "ano ba yan, tayo convinience hanap natin hehe."
We started late, about 11:20 or so. Me-an was the kid that I got, she was failry used to using Internet Explorer. So I just did a review of the different buttons and tools in the UI. What kept bothering us was a virus detected prompt, attached in the pictures. I could'nt toubleshoot since we were in the middle of the discussion, so I just let it be saying to Me-an that you always had to read prompts (since napansin ko click lang sya ng click). After reviewing the buttons, I thought her how to save URLs on Favorites, she found it useful. The kid learns fast :) then History, and links, copy pasting from different websites, and refining searches. Since everyone only had a limited amount of time surfing the internet, and most of them only updated their friendster profile I really emphasized on the benefit of Copy&Paste. And we also shared a dial up connection, slow hehe.
We finished about past 12. So we hurriedly went out and set off. Hirap sumakay kahit week end, we ended up getting a trike to katipunan and running for the LRT station. We were both hungry, so we hurriedly went to gateway to grab a quick snack. My friend went to the bathroom, so I decided that this was our chance to eat. Bought Shawarma for 65 bux a piece, mahal. after finishing it, I decided to buy a few more from the MRT station in Cubao, and to my surprise, the shawarma there was only 35, so I felt irritated. But we still bought two anyway, plus a shiopao each.
Arriving late, we were lucky that they started late :) hehe. I got two that time, Edcyl and Sonny boy. Both wanting a different lesson. I gave Edcyl grade 5 math problems, and Edcyl grade 1 reading excersises. It was great, di namn ako nalito since I was teaching them two different subjects.
:( I promised I would be back next week, guess I have to break that promise cause my cousing texted me sunday morning that I was going to be the godfather of his kid. :(
Overall, I had a great time! Even if I only had 2 Shawarmas (unequally priced) and a siopao for lunch! :)
I attahced the pictures :) |
